Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

This paper offers a general introduction to the psychology of work and organisations. We examine psychological approaches to issues that influence both employee behaviour at work as well as overall organisational performance. From job satisfaction and involvement, through leadership and teamwork, to stress and well-being at work, the emphasis is on the application of psychological theory and research to work-related issues.

Paper Structure

The taught component of this paper consists of 3 hours of lectures and 1 hour of labs each week. The two hour lecture on Monday is recorded and available online and there is a one hour online-only lecture session available to do at any time during the week.

Labs start in the second week of the semester. There will be at least one zoom option for those unable to make it on campus, as well as Tauranga and Hamilton in-person labs. Lab materials will also be available online for self-directed learning.

This paper is designed to keep you engaged and building up credit throughout the semester. Instead of one large assignment or exam, we have reading assignments each week, short tests every three weeks and small assignments based on the labs.

Workload

Edit Workload Content
The amount of work expected of a typical student in a 15-point undergraduate paper (offered over one semester) is approximately 10 hours per week, including class contact time. These figures are only approximations, as papers vary in their requirements and students vary in both the amount of effort required and the level of grades students wish to achieve.
